DEADLINE EXTENSION

Once again South Glos have extended their deadline for submissions/objections to the Park Farm Planning Application. I believe it now stands at Friday 5th AUGUST - although it is feasible this will be extended yet again. Each time new documentation is added to the application, this triggers a set amount of time that must elapse before the consultation can be closed.
So if you haven't objected yet ..... get writing! (See previous posts for detailed advice on grounds for objection.)

A full account of the shameful Thornbury Town Council endorsement of the application on Tuesday night (12th) will follow this post in the very near future. Apologies for delay - pressures of the day-job and family commitments!

  1. I am hoping the South Glos delay is because they what to see what the governemnt planning inspector decides about the soundness and legality of their core strategy before looking at the Barratt application. If so, its a shame Thornbury Town councillors are not so minded.

TTC's support the planning application for Park Farm is reminiscent of the fairy tale, the Emperor’s New Clothes. No matter how often they are shown they are naked, the TTC Lib Dems remain convinced they are dressed in their finest.

They told us Park Farm was the ‘least worst option’ whilst the 2005 Local Plan tells us it is actually the least suitable. For a year they told us the development would lead to significant sums being spent on Castle School but Barratts say they won’t be doing that. Then TTC added conditions to their support such as the building of a convenience store, but Barratts have said they won’t be doing that either.

Everywhere else a sustainability appraisal informed site selection, but TTC chose Park Farm and then championed a S.A written afterwards, despite it being full of errors and omissions. Now they have given their support to an application when the Government Planning Inspector has raised serious concerns about the soundness and legality of the Core Strategy and has yet to make his judgement. In addition there is significant opposition from residents. The councillors responsible for this decision are one of two things; so inept they are incapable of seeing they have got it wrong or so arrogant they cannot admit it.

All towns must grow. Many houses are needed in South Gloucestershire and planning is never easy, but the TTC Lib Dems have made it infinitely harder by ignoring their mistakes, ignoring the Planning inspector’s concerns and ignoring the electorate. How will they ever gain public support for this or any future development having behaved in such a manner?

Democracy is now dead in Thornbury and it’s killers were those councillors who voted to support the planning application. But just because we cannot rely on our town council, it doesn't mean its not worth writing to South Glos before the deadline. It's still not over - don't give up yet.
